Heat and mass transfer in fluidized bed granulation
Key words: Fluidization, gas to particle heat transfer ABSTRACT Fluidized bed granulation is a process by which granules or coated particles are produced in a single piece of equipment by spraying a binder as solution, suspension, or melt into fluidized powder bed. Gas to particle heat transfer determination is useful to design of a granulator. A heat and mass transfer equation has been set to determine the equation and the basic concept behind this is evaporation rate of the liquid is equal to the heat transferred from hot gas to particle.
This equation is applied to the quantitative data available on granulation process obtained by different workers. These datas are used to calculate Reynolds number and Nusselt numbers i.e. relation between heat and mass transfer from gas to particle during granulation has been tried to found. The Nusselt number and Reynolds number is plotted in a logarithmic scale and this relation has found like Nu=0.0205Re1.3876 This relation can be compared with Kotharis co-relation (1967) Nu=0.03Re1.3 Experimentally gas to particle heat transfer has been found in different particle with and without moisture.
