In 2000, research group in Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) started research on the chemical-looping combustion technology from reactivity tests of oxygen carrier particles by thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA). After five years, we demonstrated long-term operation more than 25 hours in the world biggest 50kWth pilot plant. In this paper, we summarized previous works done by Korean research group. This research history including results from TGA, fixed bed, fluidized bed (FB), pressurized fluidized bed (PFB) and pressurized circulating fluidized bed (PCFB) system. By this review, we can avoid doing the same trial and error and we can save time to overcome some obstacles to commercialize chemical-looping combustion technology. In addition, the criteria for selection of metal components in the oxygen carrier particles and the future works are suggested.
