Freezing and melting are an imporant phenomena in energy storage systems. In this paper,we present melting of two phase change materials(PCM),n-Octadecane and paraffin wax with melting points of 29 and 60C which were used in cylindrical containers with L/d ratios of 1,2 and4.Melting was affected by immersion -of pcm containing cylinders in isothermal water bath with accuracy of 1C.Liquid pcm temperatures were maintained at 2-25C above the melting point.Data genereated includes melting rate varying with time, temperature distribution in the PCM(radial and axial) and phtographic observations on the interface movement with time.A comparison of literure models with data are presented.
