Recent research publications, including from our own laboratories, demonstrate that physical properties of semiconductor nanocrystals, palladium nanoparticles, cobalt nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles and nanocomposites can be fine tuned through control over nanocrystal growth parameters and kinetics in micro fluidic reactors. Based on these initial results, one can anticipate that micro reactors are likely to provide cost-effective and environmental friendly technologies for rational designing of nanoparticles. By utilizing several thousands of microreactors, process scale-up with continued reaction control provide several advantages in commercialization of processes for wet chemical synthesis of nanoparticles. The presentation will focus on how microfludic strategies for synthesis of nanoparticles are begining to show promise in providing control over size, size distribution and crystal structure of nanoparticles.
