Computer simulations of granular solid and flow have been growing rapidly in recent years, both in the development of new numerical techniques and also in the application to processes of increasing complexity. One very important and challenging area is how to characterize the granular solid to provide the key parameters for a successful simulation. This session welcomes papers that address this aspect by various methods including experimental measurement, statistical techniques, validation and calibration, and sensitivity analysis. We are particularly interested in successfully validated cases of bulk flow simulations in process equipment that use as input, independently determined material properties or simulations that are used to distinguish between "real" material properties in process applications.
