Papers on the application of process intensification techniques to particle engineering are sought. Both experimental and modeling based studies are welcome. This session is focused on process intensification for particle engineering. Particle engineering is crucial for applications as diverse as pharmaceutical API’s, nanoparticles and detergents. Properties to be engineered include particle size, particle size distribution, particle morphology, particle surface modification, particle coatings and the formation of composite structures such as granules. Process intensification is an emerging collection of technologies with important implications for the economics and efficiency of chemical and materials processing. Process intensification technologies run the gamut from microchannel reactors to reaction rate enhancing systems to continuous monitoring systems that allow on the fly adjustments to a process. Intensified processes are often characterized by a transition from batch to continuous processing, tighter control of material properties and the potential for distributed manufacturing or a reduction of the production area footprint.
