Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) Yanbu Refinery successfully converted the existing 38 MBD fixed bed Reformer to continuous catalyst regeneration (CCR) to produce 40 MBD platformate with a 100 Research Octane Number Clear (RONC) gasoline blending component. This conversion was a major capital project that improved the Reformer unit reliability and efficiency, by reducing the down time for catalyst regeneration. The latest UOP regeneration technology cycle max has been used in this conversion. This paper will share the revamping conversion of Yanbu Refinery Reformer to CCR, the technology used, lessons learned and the gained benefits.
