New and Exciting Packing Applications: Continuing the Heritage of Kunesh, Sakata and Zuiderweg
Wednesday, April 25, 2007 - 9:45am to 10:15am
Upon completing screening tests using total reflux facilities available at TU Delft, structured packing geometry refinements have been carried out and representative sizes of new Montz gauze (A3), extended metal (BS), and sheet metal (B1) series packings exposed to thorough testing using state of the art new facility available at Bayer Technology Services. The heart of this installation is a 0.6 m ID, total reflux column, which allows packed heights up to 4 m, and is operated with chlorobenzene/ethylbenzene system at 100 and/or 1000 mbar. A detailed description of relevant features of this installation and the adopted experimental procedure is given. Obtained results, i.e. corresponding hydraulic and mass transfer performances indicate that by combining appropriately the dimensions and design of corrugations and the corrugation inclination angle, i.e. by affecting the pressure drop accordingly, either efficiency or capacity, or even both can be enhanced significantly, depending on the type of the packing.
