This session will cover topics related to the microstructural analysis for membrane and catalyst layer degradation mechanisms for the new generation of materials being developed for direct hydrogen fuel cell components. Papers should focus on 1) individual or combinations of scattering, spectroscopic and microscopic analytical techniques and instrumentation that can provide information on nanoscale changes to the material's structure-property characteristics, 2) new enabling sample preparation protocols, 3) real-time in-situ molecular level observation or control of any changes to the new materials during the component's operation, and 4) how the results of this micro-structural analysis were used to redesign and develop the next generation of materials for practical applications.
