Systems to share and apply process safety management knowledge and experiences across common or ?sister plant? technologies within a company or operating division are important to leverage and apply risk management information in a consistent and sustainable manner at all applicable plant locations. . This is typically an area of weakness in a corporate PSM program since it may involve multiple sites and organizations on a global basis, may be managed in a decentralized fashion, and is not easily included in traditional PSM auditing systems or performance reviews. Many opportunities exist to leverage the routine PSM knowledge and learnings generated from plant process operations involving ?sister plant? technologies, including elements such as process technology, mechanical integrity, hazards analysis, MOC, incident investigation, and operating procedures. Leveraging this knowledge in a focused manner is particularly important in a business and operating environment when significant changes may occur as part of new products, six sigma efficiencies, and enhanced risk reduction measures. This paper will review a global study conducted by DuPont to analyze the current state of PSM knowledge leveraging across sister plant technologies, implement improved and sustainable systems to ensure that knowledge is applied consistently, and identify the key success factors necessary to improve and maintain this sharing both at a plant and business level.
