(122f) Process Safety: “Walk through Review”

Safe design on process safety will not remain the same if the process safety is not sustained for safe operation and maintenance. One key on Process Safety Management is to conduct a routine process safety audit. Most of the audit is rely on the documentation but it may not be enough to see the improvement on process safety results and sometimes, the result may be surprise when the formal audit is done. Conducting ?Walk Through Review? of Process Safety will ensure the actual conditions meet the process safety expectation. The additional important on the result is we know how they operate the Process Safety in field.

What the focus on the Walk Through Review? As part of ?sustaining process safety?; focus will be on Prevention and Control of Process Safety Measurement; sustaining on safe operation and maintenance, operating and design windows, management of change; safe work procedure, understanding the facilities and other process safety measurements.

Who should do the Walk Through Review? The review can be conducted by every level of supervisory until management level; of course; can be conducted by Senior Process Safety Engineer. It can be done individually or by a group.

When can be done? It cab be done anytime, based on routine schedule or management visit.

How can be conducted? The walk through review check list and document to be reviewed is required. The review module is suggested to be done based on Process Equipment module rather than all entire equipments to ensure the effectiveness of the review.

The findings that are found during the review should be recorded and the recommendation must be addressed, tracked and have individually responsibility party to close out the findings and finally, must be documented.
