Fundamentals and Technology of Ethylene Production -- Paper Session
Tuesday, April 8, 2008 - 4:35pm to 5:00pm
The Lummus OCT technology has achieved industry acceptance as evidenced by the 25 units under license representing almost 6 Million TPA of propylene capacity. This technology has achieved it success by taking advantage of the lower cost C4 streams produced by either steam cracking or FCC and upgrading them to higher value olefins.
Lummus has developed a unique addition to its olefins technology portfolio called Comonomer Production Technology or CPT. This technology upgrades mixed C4 streams to butene-1 and or hexene-1, both valuable polyethylene co-monomers. This technology can be applied on a stand alone basis or integrated with an olefins conversion unit.
The presentation will describe the CPT technology and its operation in a unique campaign mode that allows for the low cost integration of CPT with an OCT unit while producing comonomer at a capacity viable for the captive market.
