Laccase from a white rot fungus Flammulina velutipes, in the presence of HBT (1-hydroxybenzotriazole), was applied to improve totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleaching of Masson pine kraft pulp. Different TCF bleaching sequences in combination with LMS treatment were evaluated. The results indicated the laccase from Flammìlina velìtipes could improved the bleaching efficiency and pulp brightness. Kraft Masson pine pulps the can be bleached to 80%ISO using OLEQP and LEOQP bleaching sequence, which was 11.3%ISO higher and 10.7%ISO than that without biobleaching, respectively. In addition, with LMS (Laccase/Mediator System), the strength properties of the pulp increased significantly in comparison with TCF bleaching without LMS treatment. XRD was used to investigate the cellulose crystallinity change in the LMS treatment. FQA was also adopted to analyze the fiber properities. The results are expected to interpret the reason that the LMS treatment maintains the original fiber strength in TCF bleaching.
