Conventional wisdom says that expansion in ethylene capacity is driven by the availability of advantaged feedstocks. However it is becoming increasingly clear that there are limits to the availability of the advantaged ethane that has been driving the current wave of investment in the Middle East. What are the factors that are contributing to this changing ethane outlook and what might the future hold? Looking ahead, what are the alternative and new feedstocks which may be developed in response?
