Effective management of permitting & regulatory affairs in capital projects
For many project managers, permits and regulatory compliance are an area which presents far more liability than opportunity ? a single missing permit can add huge cost and time overruns to a project, but even the most careful execution cannot guarantee success. Permit and regulatory requirements are often unclear, and can vary wildly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, or over time within a given jurisdiction. As a further complication, regulatory specialists ? when available ? who really understand the relevant requirements are often relatively uninvolved in the schedule and budgetary concerns of any given project.
Nonetheless, these risks are fundamentally no different from other risks ? they are subject to mitigation by effective analysis and planning. The focus of this session will be on cost effective ways to understand and manage permitting and regulatory compliance in large capital projects.
