Three phase gas-liquid-liquid segmented flow in small pipes has seldom been reported. Such flow has been used for material synthesis, i.e. crystallization, the gas segments behaving as liquid slugs separators, or so called "coalescence inhibitors".[1] However, only one report focuses on the use of G/L/L segmented flow for reaction but without analysis of the flow pattern.[2] We would like to report some work on the use of segmented flow with a reacting gas, and organic and aqueous layers for performing hydrogenations catalysed with transition metal complexes and organic synthesis with a higly soluble gas. The impact of gas consumption on the flow will be analysed. Image analysis of the segmented 3-phase flow (see picture) also leads to propose a mapping with respect to superficial velocities of the fluids.
