The Instrumented Protective System (IPS) lifecycle requires the development of a Protective Requirements Specification which is the design basis for IPS. This document can take many forms; a collection of documents, a single document, or in a database. This paper investigates what is takes to document the Protective Requirements Specification through a relational database. At first look, this looks like a simple task with functions, systems, and components, but deep down there are some family secrets that need to be uncovered to better understand those relationships.
