North American Mixing Forum is presenting this tutorial session at the Spring AIChE meeting to help chemical engineers and chemists understand what they need to know about mixing to do successful chemical reactions. The text books provide the theoretical concepts for conducting reactions in ideal and non ideal stirred tanks. This tutorial session will attempt to show the connection between the theory and practice of industrial mixing as it applies to stirred tank reactors. Considerable scientific research and practical experience has shown that understanding mixing concepts can solve many chemical reaction problems. The effects of mixing can be different for batch or continuous reactors.
