This paper describes the economic advantages of the lined rock carven system against conventional LNG storage tank. The lined rock carven system, basically similar to the membrane LNG storage system, shows more economical when its capacity is beyond 300,000 m3.
This paper also discusses the challenges of the lined rock carven system based on pilot storage system with liquid nitrogen. Impact of rock freezing and hydrogeology on the design and operation will also be discussed.
