The use of conceptual tools studied in a subject and the development of projects based on these concepts are the foundations of the course Introduction to the Catalytic Reactions, in the Universidad de los Andes. An investigation was conducted to analyze the effect of impregnation time and the initial concentration of the solution in catalysts of Ni and Cu on γ-Al2O3 using an experimental design. The precursors were NiSO4 y CuSO4 respectively. A textural characterization was carried out using specific procedures such as BET isotherm, sweep electronic microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and calorimetric immersion. With the results obtained conclusions can be drawn about the effects, of the variables chosen, on the physical and structural properties like the profile distribution of the catalytic species over the support. Additionally, the determination of the superficial area, diameter and pore volume, thermal stability of the solid and the identification of the adsorption process that took place, was also obtained. The catalysts were tested with oxidation reactions of alcohols in a Packed Bed Reactor.
