Abstract: Oligo-ethylene glycol ethyl ether acetate (OEGEEA) is an excellent solvent which is widely used in paints, dyes and inks due to high solubility and low toxicity. The traditional method to manufacture OEGEEA is a two-step process with acetic acid as starting material. Here, we reported a novel one-pot process catalyzed by the Al-Mg composite oxide, achieving the ethyl acetate ethoxylation directly and efficiently. A narrow distribution of polyoxyethylene in adducts can be well controlled by the modification of the Al-Mg composite oxide catalysts.
