Reinvigorating and Evolving Process Safety Implementation
Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - 10:45am to 11:15am
Several years ago our facility recognized the need to expand from a PSM Program managed by a small group to a PSM Culture owned by the full facility. Development and implementation of effective and consistent PSM metrics were utilized to achieve the following: (1) Set the vision for a PSM Culture (2) Gauge basic PSM awareness (3) Educate on basic PSM elements (4) Identify gaps via near miss incidents and (5) Build momentum for improvement- an effective 'Case for Change' short of a major incident This paper will cover the path of this facility through these five points. It will provide example tools, methods, and results of each step along the way towards PSM culture improvement. We will discuss: What metrics and informative tools were used; Which worked (and what didn't work) to drive the desired vision for different audiences; How the measures were communicated to the plant; What systems were needed to drive improvements; and What results we have seen through consistent use of these metrics.
