The Gamma Scanning technique was developed many years ago; and as in many other inventions or discoveries, its misuse is really a problem and can have a strong impact in money and time. Doing a proper gamma scanning requires a detailed plan and strategy, which will be discussed in this paper. Bad results are normally related with the misuse or misinterpretation of the technique. The intent of this paper is to present our experiences and strategies to perform a good gamma scanning. To reach that point we also will present our experience with bad and good results, including specific examples in amine towers, crude towers and vacuum towers.
