Impact of Sustainability Efforts On Loss Prevention
Tuesday, March 15, 2011 - 2:00pm to 2:30pm
This paper describes loss prevention issues in implementing hydrogen technologies specifically focusing on hydrogen fueling stations. Hydrogen has been used in industrial applications for many years. In the last ten years, there has been a significant interest in using hydrogen as a vehicle fuel primarily for fuel cell vehicles.
The paper will address the following loss prevention associated with hydrogen fueling operations:
- Hydrogen ignition properties - Hydrogen behavior in confined and semi-confined spaces - High pressure hydrogen storage - Hydrogen release detection
The paper will address both outdoor fueling operations for road vehicles and indoor fueling operations for industrial trucks. The paper will also discuss outreach Department of Energy (DOE) education activities intended to make users aware of the hazards and safety measures associated with new hydrogen technologies.
