The profession of chemical engineering offers multiple, distinct career paths. Although many young professionals entering the professional world will spend the majority of their time in an industrial setting, working in important careers such as process engineering; many alternatives present themselves. This session will provide a brief overview of the variety of "specialties" our profession offers, including careers in: process engineering, academia, law, and government. This overview will be followed by a detailed discussion of a career path in environmental consulting. The speaker holds MS and BS chemical engineering degrees and will discuss his thought process regarding the decision of which path to follow after graduation and the ultimate decision to enter the environmental consulting world, followed by an overview of experiences from nearly 20 years on the job. The intent is to share real-life observations, share the pros and cons associated with various career choices, and enter into a dialogue (time permitting) with the audience.
