There is an interest in the industry to quickly determine tower diameter of conventionally valve trayed towers. The author has modified the heritage "Glitsch Equation 13" to make the determination entirely based on liquid load. The new equation along with adequate downcomer sizing is employed to determine diameter and the number of tray passes for a given tray spacing. A comparison to data is shown and the reasoning behind the recent "Chemical Engineering - Facts at your Finger Tips" article is explained.
