The process industries have become leaner through consolidation of production capacities, reorganization of businesses, and reductions in workforce. The resulting effect is a challenge to an organization’s ability to effectively maintain various aspects a process safety program, from managing the organizational change to developing and implementing effective learning and knowledge transfer programs to effectively qualifying and certifying operators and validating their competence to operate the process to fatigue risk management, safety culture, and conduct of operations. Papers submitted to this session will explore the emerging trends and practices associated with these aspects of process safety, address how organizations consistently and effectively implement these practices, and discuss how barriers to success are addressed and controlled.
