(104bw) Process Safety Leadership: Learning and Kpi's

The industries which are involved in the production and manufacturing of highly hazardous substances have long used KPI’s to focus on improving their overall performance.  Recently, significant progress has been made in improving Process Safety KPI’s.  Traditional approaches such as “managing the numbers” often yield predictable results that are not necessarily prone to continuously improve.  The selection of a balanced set of KPI’s, systematic workforce involvement, and keeping front-line focus on a select few can improve both can improve the impact of KPI’s and reduce unintended consequences of how your KPI’s are used..  This paper will describe leadership behaviors that can enhance organizational learning and performance through KPI selection and involvement techniques based upon psychology as well as business results.
