Pyrolysis vapors are catalytically treated directly downstream in a coupled reactor.  Dual function metal/metaloxide catalysts are used to convert small oxygenates to larger carbon number molecules with less oxygen and, simultaneously, deoxygenate phenolics and transfer methoxy methyl to the ring.  The ultimate goal is to maximize liquid product (and carbon) yield while minimizing hydrogen requirements.
