(60b) Refining & Petrochemicals – Technology Solutions Through Integrated Optimization

Interest in integrating refining and petrochemical complexes continues to grow due to synergies between these two groups of technologies. The advantages of integration include upgrading of otherwise low value byproducts, improved energy efficiency, and greater vertical integration.  There are many challenges when selecting the proper technologies for the integrated complex, including product slate and mix, feedstock sourcing, and local regulatory requirements that require a thorough understanding how to optimize the intermediate streams to their highest value potential.   This presentation will step through an integration example showing how different technology selections can take a maximum fuels refinery all the way to a maximum petrochemical facility.  It will also include technology optimization examples that highlight the importance of proper technology selection for different integrated complex configurations and objectives.
