(111a) Twenty-Five Years of EPC Safety

Sharing
olefins-specific safety information was one of the principal motivations for
organizing the first Ethylene Producers' Conference twenty-five years ago.  The
conferences have been a success in this regard, as this paper shows by
highlighting some of the more important safety topics covered by the conferences
to date.  The papers mentioned are among nearly 150 safety papers available at
the EPC Proceedings website.  Incident reports have been one of the most
popular features in all sessions of the conferences; the website includes a
database to make finding the safety incident reports as easy as possible.  The
AIChE has a long history of providing a wide range of process safety resources,
the most relevant of which are highlighted here.  Some outside sources of
safety information are also mentioned.  A time
line has also been included to summarize the EPC's activities in the
context of selected plant incidents, significant governmental actions, and
other industry developments.
