Though agitator power consumption may not be one of the primary energy costs in most processing plants, it is still a contributor which may be minimized by judicious equipment selection as well as operating procedures, such as shutting the agitator off when agitation is not needed, or using variable speed drive when less agitation is needed. The right approach depends on the kind of agitation problem. In this article, we will focus on 3 major problem classifications: liquid motion, solids suspension and gas dispersion.
