(142f) A New "Spin" on Trays

The capacity of any conventional cross-flow tray is limited by gravity due to the settling velocity of the droplets.  In addition, the efficiency of a cross-flow tray is reduced as the liquid rate is reduced.  Cross-flow trays also struggle to deal with the pitch & roll that are experienced on some off-shore applications.  In this presentation, information on two types of trays to deal with all of these issues will be presented.  In both of these trays, centrifugal motion is used to overcome the gravity limitation.  The liquid flow patterns are managed to ensure that the nature of the froth maintains good efficiency.  In the case of off-shore applications, baffles are used to negate the influence of pitch & roll.  Large scale test data on these trays will be presented.
