Spray nozzles & gravity distributors are primarily used in different Oil refinery facilities (columns, scrubbers, etc.). Installers and manufactures consider these devices to be very effective and reliable. They are indeed! Nevertheless, performance may be impacted if testing/washing is not done in the field prior to start up. Most of the time, testing is overlooked due to time constraints. This paper presents the importance of the Spray nozzles & Gravity distributors’ field test, guidelines to perform successful field test including practical experiences to avoid “headaches” when performing the test. Hazards associated with the test and safeguards are included.
