Non Linear processes occur throughout the petrochemical plant. While the PID loop is surprisingly robust for most situations, there are cases where compensation of these non-linearity’s is critical for stable control. Similarly, disturbances can cause major disruptions in control stability.
A method of feed forward control, using data based models, can provide robust control throughout the process range. Historical data are used to build models to drive the output toward the solution with PID control providing the final drive to zero error.
The model is also used to develop dynamic tuning. The result is a simple to configure, robust solution to manage non-linear loop and/or disturbance variations.
