(83f) Pellets From Lignocellulosic Materials: Briquetting Process Evaluation

This study looking for the implementation a process to obtain pellet from lignocellulosic materials (Oil Palm waste). These pellets are used as combustion material. The first step in this research was the selection of biomass (Colombia is a main producer in the world of Oil Palm). The waste material was ground, separated by sizing and characterized. The main purpose of this investigation was the briquetting process to give a different use and related with sustainable energy.

An experimental design was elaborated by found the relation between different variables selected (particle size, pressure, and binder). Two particle sizes, two pressure levels and two different substances were employed as binders, like pitch and tar. The pellets was characterized by heating power, density, area bet, pore diameter, pore distribution and physical properties such as strength tensile, among other.

The combustion process was study changed the air flow and followed the ashes content and orsat analysis.
