Innovations that combine chemical and biological processes are allowing manufactures to produce specialty chemicals and other products from, usually, environmentally friendly and renewable resources. It is expected that the market share for renewable sourced chemical products will grow substantially in the coming years as consumers and manufactures look for ways to lessen their impact on the environment. The term “bioeconomy” is becoming more prevalent as companies look for ways to make profit from renewable resources. Chemical engineering is an integral part in creating a “bioeconomy”.
