Submerged Combustion Vaporizer (SCV) as a base load regasifier has high thermal efficiency, easy start-up, and it is also capable of long term operation. However, the conventional SCV generates air emissions due to fuel combustion, which then produces nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and other toxins. Since these emissions from facility operation directly impact environmental condition, it is essential to develop the SCV which can minimize emissions as well as providing better cost competitive operation.
This paper presents advanced designs of SCV that have been newly developed to reduce NOx and CO emissions in the exhaust gases from the SCV. These include “flue gas recirculation” “rapid premix submerged combustion” and “regenerative thermal oxidation”. The process and major factors impacting emissions are discussed in this paper. Economic advantages of the newly designed low emission SCV is also presented with a case study.
