Wash Water is commonly used to control the environment in process piping in refineries in order to prevent salt formation or concentrated acidic droplets, and to help protect downstream equipment from the effects of corrosion. The Water Wash system needs to be specified correctly or else there is the chance that it will not work as desired or may cause even more problems. Considerations need to be made when designing the system for optimum coverage / distribution of the Wash Water as well as droplet size / atomization of the injected liquid. Factors critical for a successful design and installation will be discussed.
