(125d) Self-Cleaning "Bernoulli" Type Filter Application to Mitigate Fouling in PHE Heat Exchangers

Authors

In this paper we will describe the special design features of the SAB self-cleaning filters, based on the "Bernoulli Principle", resulting in fully automated operations without need for frequent manual cleaning or replacement of filter elements; the choice of materials of construction taking into account the high level of corrosion prevalent in these services; and how to meet operators' stringent criteria for space limitation, flexibility of connection to the piping systems, and ease of operator involvement once in operation.

The specific requirements by the operator to protect plate heat exchangers (PHE) from excessive fouling caused by mussels and snails will be described in detail, from design, fabrication, to on-time commissioning in a regasification plant based on an offshore structure in Malaysia. This outstanding example for project conception, design and execution could serve as an indicator of achievement that is possible in a new era of offshore plant design.
