Lifecycle Management for Your Career
Wednesday, April 2, 2014 - 1:30pm to 2:00pm
All of us are well prepared by our alma maters to begin our scientific or engineering careers. We know Nature operates according to a set of Conservation Laws, we know what those laws are, we know how to solve mathematically, and we know how to utilize them. Most of us will pursue technical careers. However, some of us will become managers, either from our own volition or by necessity; the former because we want to expand our experiences and the latter because all organizations require managers. Unfortunately, we are never fully prepared for such a move, especially if we have been a highly successful “doer”. Moving form “doer” to “facilitator” is challenging and some who try it are not successful. This presentation is about moving from “doer” to “facilitator”. We will discuss the pitfalls of such a move, how to prepare for such a move, and how to manage such a move.
