(27e) Fuel Based Approach for CO2 Emission Factor Estimation

Global warming is an issue facing the world nowadays and CO2 emissions are contributing directly to this issue. There are many ways to quantify and predict CO2 emissions from different sources. Combustion process is considered to be the major source of CO2 emissions. There are many published CO2 emission factors in order to find the released emissions. In this study, CO2 emission factors from fuel specifications for oil and petrochemical industry is used and compared with the published data. It was found that CO2 emissions vary with quality of fuel and operating condition. For example, the average CO2 emission factor for gas turbine was calculated as 114 lb/MMbtu. This emission factor has a good match with published emission factor of EPA and CAPP data.
