As part of the 2013 update, NFPA 654 provides clarification on how to determine if a flash fire or explosion hazard exists, using a hazard assessment. This hazard assessment incorporates dust characteristics, design of the facility and localized accumulations in the analysis. This presentation will present a multi-step approach to conducting these hazard assessments, simplifying the process. Once complete, the hazard assessments define the areas to evaluate during the process hazard analysis and assure that valuable resources are spent appropriately.
