ABSTRACT
Results are presented from experimental investigations of mass transfer in a 50mm I.D.copper tube inserted with various sizes of square plates. A similarity law approach was attempted to interpret the mass transfer results and correlate them in terms of Colburn factor JD and Reynolds number Re. The effect of geometric parameters such as size of square plate (Ss), thickness of square plate (Sw) and spacing between square plates (h) in conduit on mass transfer coefficient are studied. The present results are compared with previously published results and a generalized correlation in terms of JD and Re is developed which is applicable for different types of square plates. The following correlation is developed between JD and Re
JD = 195.66 Re-0.9014 (f1)0.6325 (f2)0.1799 (f3)-0.3484
