This paper refers on the hydraulic and mass-transfer characteristics of metal sheet Raschig Super-Pak 250 structured packing under absorption conditions. The pressure drop measurements were performed with air – water system. The mass-transfer characteristics were measured using standard absorption systems of oxygen desorption from water (kLa measurement), SO2 chemisorption into the NaOH aqueous solution (kGa measurement) and CO2 chemisorption into the NaOH aqueous solution (effective area, a, measurement). Measurements were performed with four elements of the packing with diameter of 0.29 m and total height of 0.84 m. The evaluated values of mass-transfer characteristics are compared with the ones calculated from the models designed for the prediction of the mass-transfer characteristics in corrugated sheet structured packings (Rocha, J. A.; Bravo, J. L.; Fair, J. R. Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 1996, 35, 1660; Olujic, Z.; Kamerbeek, A. B.; Graauw, J. Chem. Eng. Process. 1999, 38, 683). The hydraulic (CS, CFl, Ch and CP,0) and mass-transfer (CL and CV) parameters of the Billet-Schultes model (Billet, R.; Schultes, M. Chem. Eng. Res. Des. 1999, 77, 498) obtained using the experimental data are presented.
