Gosling, C. - Presenter, UOP - A Honeywell COmpany

UOP has a long history in developing new process and catalyst technology for the refining and petrochemical industries.  UOP’s technology development activities are managed through a robust New Product Development process that is designed to ensure that the viability of a new technology is well demonstrated at the pilot plant scale before commercialization is attempted.  The intent of the process is to be able to address the questions that potential commercialization partners will have as part of their own technology qualification work processes.

There is a wide range of technologies being developed at UOP ranging from new higher performance catalysts for existing processes to new to the industry advanced process technology.  Three case studies will be presented to illustrate the approach used to complete development of a new catalytic reforming catalyst, a new process for producing renewable diesel from vegetable oil, and a new advanced process technology to produce light olefins from methanol.  All of these technologies have been successfully commercialized in the past 3 years.
