With growing emphasis on sustainable development, there has been a renewed interest in non-petroleum derived feed stocks for many chemical processes. Among the bio-derived feed stocks, ethanol has received the most interest as its production is based on the fermentation of agricultural products as corn, sugarcane and molasses.
In this paper, Scientific Design Company shares its unique technology to produce Ethylene Oxide and Ethylene Glycols from Ethanol. This integrated approach results in lower overall capital costs and optimum energy integration. The economic viability of the integrated ethanol to EO/ EG process in an ever changing oil market is also evaluated.
