Refinery Wastewater Treatment
Several operating units from utilities and processing area contribute to over all refinery wastewater. Waste streams, such as oily, non oily, high TDS Ion Exchange regenerate, spent caustic and Ammonia etc. are selectively segregated, pre-treated and then combined usually in large equalization tank. Streams containing benzene are segregated from the point source and after suitable intermediate treatment can be combined in the equalization tank. Downstream process may include cooling, pH adjustment before proceeding to biological aerobic activated sludge process to reduce BOD, COD, suspended solids, residual benzene and ammonia in compliance with outfall discharge limits and or recycle to cooling tower make up water quality.
