The present paper gives an overview about state of the art flare system design (elevated flare, ground flare and field flare). Advantages and disadvantages are discussed when selecting the most appropriate flare system. Critical flare features are highlighted and addressed to ensure successful design of a flare system. The paper also presents an outlook about trends in flare system design.
