Dynamic simulation models are seamlessly integrated with Distributed Control System (DCS) simulation and used very successfully in creating Operator Training Simulators and for validating DCS configuration and regulatory control system functionality.
For processes with existing Dynamic Simulation models, incorporating Advanced Process Control (APC) models in dynamic simulation models has several benefits:
- It serves as a platform for upfront discussion and testing of all desired features of APC.
- It allows for efficient design of base level regulatory and APC strategies.
- It allows for efficient design of long term performance monitoring metrics and reporting.
All this can be done quickly in a safe simulation environment prior to implementation.
This paper presents several use cases / examples of including APC in dynamic simulation models.
